Baby Blankets
I lost a friend today, he stood by me as anyone could;
I shall miss him so, I should say, as with a friend anyone would;
We traveled together side by side, with the wind always at our backs,
We look forward to the ride, sharing, smiles, laughs and sugar snacks;
Then one day at an amusement park, I dozed in my stroller just for a minute,
It was time for home, it was getting dark, then I noticed my friend wasn't in it.
I described him to the man, I said, "soft, smooth, and ever so blue",
I was his biggest fan, without my friend, what will I ever do...
"Blue?" with a gentle smile, he said, that's a funny color for a friend,
Why yes sir, he's my blanky, my pal, my buddy to the end...
We filled out a card, with description in tow,
Will I ever see my pal, shall I ever know...
It was a restless night that night, I couldn't sleep a wink,
Maybe he was taken, shaken, and or even worse, I couldn't think...
Why did I fall asleep, I should have waited don't you know,
Then the phone rang, Mom said, "Its your friend" - they have him, I said, let's go!
I made a promise that day, my friend and I will always be,
I have kept that promise, I'm proud to say, ever since I was three...
I'm forty now, to my surprise, my childhood and I have long been apart,
But my blanket is my compromise, for I will always be a child at heart...
